OVERDUE
Pairing: Yunho/Sunye

Although everyone felt heavy at heart, it was obviously written on their faces that they were excited about the future, about the scary yet exciting new adventures and challenges ahead, waiting for them.

Across the hallway, many different scenes were witnessed. Some students were crying, thinking about the memories during the years spent together in high school, some were busy taking photos to capture the memorable occasion, whilst others were having their graduation gowns fixed.

Jung Yunho was playing with his cap as he focused his eyes on a pretty girl standing at the far end, just near the backstage. Not noticing the pair of eyes fixed on her in the very busy and almost chaotic place, she was making goofy faces, successfully making her best friends laugh their lungs out. She was a bubbly character and that was what Yunho loved most about her. He did not even take his eyes off of her as a teacher helped her set up her graduation gown. Even with the heavy, black gown almost burying her, Yunho felt Sunye was the prettiest girl alive.

As about 100 of the graduates moved towards the backstage of the huge ballroom, Sunye noticed him throwing glances at her and in return, she playfully rolled her eyes at him. It was something she was used to doing. The 17-year-old was always on her nerves, annoying her to bits when given the chance. Little did she know that the galling pretty face had been head over heels over her since they were thirteen.

“Yah, you’re gonna regret it,” Yunho heard his close cousin, also his best friend, Jaejoong, warned him.

Yunho sighed. He knew that. He need not be reminded.

“Go! Talk to her!” his friend urged, as he gently pushed Yunho.

Yunho hesitated for a while, but eventually, he did as told. Jaejoong was right. God knows if their paths would ever cross again after this high school life came to an ultimate end.

He was so nervous as he made his way towards Sunye, who was, at that time, talking to a classmate, that he could feel his hands shaking. As soon as he finally approached her, Sunye signalled her friend to leave her alone so that she could talk with Yunho.

“Hey.”

Sunye just smiled as she looked at him expectantly, waiting for whatever that was he wanted to say to her. Frankly, she was of no help at all. Her acting that way made Yunho even more nervous.

He wanted to confess. He really did. The urge to admit his feelings was overwhelming, but he was scared. Yunho was afraid she would say no. He was afraid of rejection.

“Hey pretty,” he said again. He was trying hard to keep his composure but it was an epic fail. He was clearly losing it.

Sunye was shocked. For she knew, Jung Yunho would never, ever, call her with such flatter. The Yunho she knew would always tease her with names like, “Shorty”, “Geek” – the former made sense since she was the shortest one in her class, but “Geek” was absurd. She was no way near one. Sometimes, she wondered whether Yunho even had one useful brain cell in his head.

“Yunho, what got into you?”

“I-Uh-I--” As embarrassing as it sounds, Yunho was stuttering.

“Hey, are you okay?” she said, utterly puzzled as to why he was acting that way.

Stuttering, shaking and tembling and Yunho just do not go into the same channel. He was a smooth-talker and the ladies absolutely adored him.

Gaining every ounce of courage he could get, he finally let it out, the words that he had kept locked in his mouth for a very long time. “Sunye, I like you.”

Sunye blinked her eyes in disbelief. “You what?”

He sighed, with his cheeks visibly turning pink. “Min Sunye, I like you.”

She just froze like an idiot. It felt like her brain suddenly stopped functioning. She couldn’t think. Her mouth suddenly felt dry. Sunye was surprised beyond belief. How could he like her? It just did not make sense. Jung Yunho always had ways to irritate the hell out of her. There was absolutely no fcuken way he would ever be interested in her, ever.

“Yunho, are you sick or something?” she asked stupidly, after regaining self-control, obviously still finding it hard to digest what he just said.

He did not reply, but instead, looked at her and gave the most sincere smile he could ever offer.

Jung Yunho was dead serious.

He stood there waiting for her response, but she did not say anything.

“Get in your lines, students!” The voice of the teacher could be heard.

Figuring that she did not feel the same way, he turned around and started walking away, in utter disappointment. His heart dropped just like that. His eyes started to get wet, but he could not feel it. Yunho was numb.

“Jung Yunho,” her soft voice spoke out. “Which boyfriend leaves his girl standing just like that?”

A smile crept into his face and he knew right there and then, he was the happiest and luckiest boy on Earth.

I think that was my first ever one-shot posted online :)
