Christmas Surprise Saturday, January 2, 2010

"No, no.. Surprise, surprise... You can't... but.."

Sunye groaned as she was shaken from her slumber. She ducked down under her pillow and tried her best to ignore the noises made from outside of her bedroom. Needless to say, it didn't help the matter.

"YAH! Can you please be quiet?!" she shouted in utter frustration.

Her yell worked its magic, and as she requested, it was back silent again. Sunye should known better that she was the type to get easily disturbed when it came to sleeping and resting, because after that, Sunye couldn't get back to sleep - no matter the fact that she barely had any sleep last night and that she was beyond exhausted.

She was practically dragging her feet towards the exit to give everyone a long lecture when something flashed across her mind. Sunye gently hit her head for forgetting it.

Automatically, she turned around and headed towards the side table next to her white-themed, comfortable bed. Her eyes rested on the framed photo sitting over it and smiled at the person she was hugging in the picture.

"Good morning, Jaebummie," she said chirpily.

It was a routine she always did. It was sad, really. But that was the most she could do. She was, rightly so, bounded to become helpless when everything was difficult. He wasn't here with her, she wasn't there with him. They were miles apart. It apalled her as to why reality was very harsh towards them.

She took her time to gaze at their adoring photo. He had his arms wrapped around her petite body and planted on his gorgeous face was the proudest smile a man could ever offer.

It was a such a special moment because she was officially his that night. Jaebum took his time, but he took it well. It surprised Sunye herself, even, at how romantic her bad-ass boyfriend could be. She found out that he planned every minute detail of the proposal - from the biggest things to the smallest, least important ones. Jaebum wanted Sunye to feel special, and he scored an A+ on his task. She was overwhelmed with happiness when he asked her to be his girlfriend, and she felt like she could just die out of extreme happiness.

Sunye started to cry as the countless precious memories started to flood her mind.

"I miss you," she managed to say in between her muffled cries. "You promised, you babo. You promised to spend every single Christmas with me, but see where you are now? You don't even bother to fly and see me."

She averted her vision towards the huge toy sitting next to her on the bed and almost immediately started throwing punches at the innocent object. Jaebum once told her that she could take it as him whenever he was not around, and that whenever he got her mad, she could wrestle it until her steam would out. Since he had been scathing her feelings for the past few months, the stuffed toy now looked barely recognisable.

"All I want for Christmas is you, so please come here," she told it, aware that she was not going to get even a single reply.

Christmas was only days away, and she would hate it to spend it without him. The idea just seemed so estranged to her, because she had spent the last three Christmas days with Jaebum - the first one was by accident when they were stuck together because of a cruel joke by their fellow trainees (They thought it would be awesome to lock them together in the dorm, for a few hours, since they hated each other), the second time was when they were still friends and the third one as a couple (Poor Jaebum had to bear spending it in the practice room since Sunye's schedule was extremely packed).

"No, of course-- Ah-- Oppa, not now please, maybe later--"

The noises were back on. She wondered what was the commotion about and decided to check it out herself.

When she stepped outside, she became puzzled as to why everything died down so suddenly. There was barely any single conversation going on in the apartment - when it was clearly noisy before she came out.

Seating herself at the bar seats facing the kitchen, she looked at Yubin who was grabbing a sandwich. Sunye was pretty observant and the sight of Yubin's hands shaking didn't leave unnoticed from her eyes. She shifted her vision from the trembling pair of hands to the face, and Yubin was as pale as someone who had seen a ghost.

With a questioning look on, she asked her friend what was up.

"Nothing," she replied, eyes planted firmly on the sandwich.

"Why are you asking?" Yeeun immediately asked Sunye just when the latter was about to further question Yubin.

"You guys are weird to--"

Something interrupted her and she paused, wondering what was it below the bar table that was producing a loud thud.

"What was that?" she asked her two friends who should see what was beneath the bar table since they were inside the kitchen.

"Oh, it's the boxes falling down," Yeeun said rather frantically.

Sunye found it odd, but she let it pass. She didn't think it was something worth her care.

"Okay, I'm gonna take the shower and wake up the maknaes."

"Achoo!"

Sunye stopped in her tracks abruptly. She knew the tone of the person sneezing. In fact, she had it by heart. Her heart started beating very fast, she felt like she was going to faint. It seemed like it was going to leap out of her chest in a matter of seconds.

"Aish." Crawling out from under the table and now standing up straight was Park Jaebum himself, looking a little bit pissed.

"We're leaving now," Yubin said, delight evident in her suddenly cheery voice.

She grabbed Yeeun's hand and walked towards the door of the apartment to let the couple have some quality time.

Instead of jumping onto him like how she had imagined herself when she would meet the man whom she had gone crazy for, Sunye instead just stood still, not moving an inch, as if time had frozen.

"I wanted to surprise you. Wouldn't it be cool to have you wake up to the sight of me next to you? But of course the dynamic duo had to come up with something else, and now the plan's ruined," he said, scratching his head.

There was a momentary silence as Sunye continued to just stare at him and do nothing.

"A hug would be nice."

She walked slowly towards him, with her mouth still pursed together. When she was standing face-to-face with him, she did the opposite.

She hit him.

"I missed you so much. Why do you have to be such an ass?"

Tears started bursting from the corners of her eyes.

"Why didn't you come sooner?"

He took a hold of her hands and placed them on his chest. Gazing adoringly at those beautiful brown eyes he had dearly missed, he placed his fingers gently on her gorgeous face and caressed it softly as he wiped her tears away.

"I missed you more than you could ever imagine. I thought I was going to die out out of coffee OD. I had coffee more than the number of times the heaviest smoker would smoke in a day."

"You should have seen me talking to your picture every 5 seconds."
